About the project
JMac delivered the redevelopment of Bruce Comben Reserve in Altona Meadows, transforming the reserve into a community open space with an adventure playground, multipurpose court, upgraded tennis courts, walking and cycling connections, off-leash dog area, amenities building, shelters, car parking and landscaping.
Scope
Construction of a new adventure playground with a climbing frame, accessible in-ground trampoline and carousel, dual flying fox, shaded sandpit, swings, water pump and nature play trail
Delivery of 1,832m2 of concrete footpaths, 302m2 of feature slabs, 380m2 of granitic path and 447 metres of kerbing
Construction of a 690m2 multi-use court suitable for sepak takraw, netball and basketball and resurfaced two tennis courts
Construction of an amenities building with Changing Places fitout and two shelters
Upgrade and extension of the car park, including 1,750m2 of car park works and new street lighting
Installation of 431 metres of fencing, park furniture, barbecues, picnic tables, drinking fountains, bike racks and waste bin sets
Delivery of 668m2 of garden beds, 529m2 of rain gardens and 900m2 of turf
Installation of services including water, electrical, sewer, drainage, irrigation and nine light towers
Outcomes
- JMac maintained open communication with the client through weekly site meetings, supporting management of delays, risks and changing site conditions.
- Provided a large cost saving to the client by negotiating the stockpiling and reuse of excavated rock on site.
- Safely managed removal of asbestos, contaminated material, rock and cultural heritage artifacts encountered during early works and excavations
- Worked with council engineers to redesign the carpark when soft ground was discovered during earthworks.
