JMac Constructions successfully completes The Strand redevelopment in North Queensland

Townsville’s popular tourist destination, The Strand has successfully been redeveloped by JMac Constructions (JMac) after being awarded both stages of the $1.1 million upgrade for Townsville City Council. Stage 1 saw the upgrade of the water park, involving installation of new slides and water play equipment, a dedicated toddler area, more shade and seating, and a safer design to ensure children are kept away from the road. JMac delivered the first stage of the upgrade two months ahead of schedule as a result of a high performing team.

Following the successful opening of the first stage in September 2016, JMac progressed Stage 2, with works commencing in June 2017. Stage 2 of the upgrade involved construction and installation of additional shelters and seating including custom park furniture, life guard towers, feature pavements and drainage. JMac programmed stage 2 works to have minimal impact on users, with the iconic water park remaining open and fully operational during the school holidays. JMac successfully delivered the project with no impact on the surrounding environment and zero lost time injuries.

The upgrade was funded by Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program, which has seen the upgrade of regional infrastructure across the state. The project builds on JMac’s strong relationship with the Queensland Government and Townsville City Council, and is one of many upgrades currently being delivered by JMac as part of the Works for Queensland program.
