About the project
JMac delivered SomerFields, a multi-million-dollar sporting precinct for Somerville House. Located on 15.4 hectares Rocklea the precinct includes six ovals, 10 multipurpose courts, a 400-metre, eight-lane grass track, car parking, entry works, landscaping, revegetation and supporting infrastructure for school sport, training and competition.
Scope
Construction of six ovals, 10 multipurpose courts and a 400-metre, eight-lane grass track with areas for throws and jumps
Completed 100,000m2 of grade and trim, 15,000m3 cut to fill and 30,000m3 cut to export
Construction of 300 metres of reinforced concrete pipe stormwater drainage, 500 metres of sewer, a 9,000m2 asphalt car park and 750 metres of kerb
Delivery of 9,500m2 of concrete courts, 1,500m2 of concrete footpaths and two large sheds with awnings
Installation of 30,000 metres of silt drains, 35,000m2 of sports field washed turf, 15,000m2 of sports field turf and six turf cricket wickets
Laid 60,000m2 of turf, planted 6,000 plants and delivered 25,000m2 of revegetation with two years of maintenance
Construction of a large stone-clad entry wall and gatehouse, sandstone-tiled front entrance with school emblem and automatic security gate
Installation of 2,000 metres of fencing, 135 guide posts and 215 wheel stops
Outcomes
- JMac managed a 30% increase in scope while only extending the program by four weeks.
- Treatment and reclassification of acid sulfate soil enabled disposal as clean fill and delivered an approximate $1 million cost saving.
- Weekly meetings and site walkarounds supported client communication, program management and timely close out of requests for information.
- Quality assurance management was maintained throughout the project, resulting in no non-conformance reports.
- JMac developed a close working relationship with the neighbouring Croatian Soccer Club, supporting site access, parking and use of office facilities during delivery.
- The completed precinct provides sporting facilities for sports including athletics, cricket, hockey, football, netball, softball, touch football, tennis and cross country.
