About the project

JMac delivered the demolition and construction of a competition-level state netball facility at Firth Park in Mudgeeraba for the City of Gold Coast. The project included 24 netball courts, two car parks, a new amenities building, refurbishment of the existing amenities building, lighting, drainage, pavements, shade structures, landscaping and associated services.

Scope

Demolished existing infrastructure and delivered a competition-level netball facility

Construction of 24 netball courts

Delivery of two car parks, including 9,000m2 of asphalt pavement, 18,000m2 of asphalt profiling, 30,000m2 of lime stabilisation and 1,800 metres of concrete kerb

Completed 20,000m3 cut to fill earthworks and 925 metres of stormwater drainage

Construction of 26,000m2 of concrete pavement and 260 metres of concrete sleeper retaining wall

Refurbished the existing amenities building and constructed a new amenities building

Installation of custom player shade structures, shade sails, a formed concrete grandstand, 24 player benches and 16 viewing grandstands

Planted 6,000 plants, laid 10,000m2 of turf and installed 125m2 of rain gardens

Installation of water services and compliant lighting for training and competition use

Outcomes

  • JMac successfully managed an increase in scope and challenging weather conditions to deliver the project on time and on budget.
  • The team overcame more than 1 metre of rain over four flood events during construction while maintaining program.
  • Programming and construction sequencing helped manage flooding risks within the Springbrook catchment.
  • Constructability input provided practical solutions for the interstate design team and supported delivery within site constraints.
  • Open and frequent communication with the City of Gold Coast and community stakeholders helped manage expectations and maintain construction timeframes.
