Colleges Crossing Recreational Reserve is a popular recreational area situated along the Brisbane River at Chuwar near the Ipswich CBD, which was destroyed during the January 2011 floods.
JMac was engaged for all aspects of civil, landscaping and building works to reconstruct the facilities that had been in the park prior to the floods including shelters, amenities blocks, playgrounds and open space areas.
The park features three large playgrounds that targeted toddlers, older children and people with disabilities and a viewing platform along with the standard amenities including BBQ facilities, amenity buildings, shelters and shade structures.
Working along a flood prone section of the Brisbane River, JMac worked to not only minimise the project’s impact on the environment but also the environment’s impact during Wivenhoe dam releases on the project schedule.
An integral part of the contract was the installation of the culvert within the Brisbane River. Wivenhoe dam releases had to be accommodated using a diversion and dewatering strategy that isolated the water resulting in minimal impact or delays.
JMac successfully delivered this significant sized project within a compressed timeframe and the park opened just in time for the Christmas holidays so that residents and travellers alike could enjoy this picturesque recreation reserve.
