Coolum, QLD
Stockland, $3 million (November 2003 – November 2006)
JMAC was engaged to provide landscaping for The Boardwalk – a residential estate offering premium beachside living, located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. As a new community centred on the essence of its natural surrounds, the landscaping was required to embody this focus of simplicity and to reflect upon the estate’s proximity to the sea. As part of the brief, JMAC managed over 200 metres of the environmentally sensitive boardwalk construction, from the fringe of the estate through the wetlands and remnant forest vegetation to the fragile dunes of Coolum Beach. The Boardwalk incorporated a combination of natural timber with stainless steel infills and innovatively designed handrails, trailing to an impressive timber observation deck atop the frontal sand dunes. The design of the deck also lent itself to striking views of the Pacific Ocean to the east and Mt Coolum to the west. JMAC were also responsible for the landscaping of the estate’s parks, streetscape, lawns and the Melaleuca nature reserve - a bush land area acting as habitat for a variety of local wildlife - all whilst keeping in theme with The Boardwalk’s spirit and focus on surrounds.
